FIFA Launches Own Blockchain on Avalanche

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the governing body of all the world’s football associations, will harness the power of blockchain to engage football followers. Avalanche’s Team1 revealed that FIFA is launching the FIFA blockchain, a custom chain that will offer new engagement opportunities for fans.

Luke152, lead of Team1, explained that the FIFA blockchain will expand on the functionalities already available with the current iteration of its decentralized platform on top of Algorand. With this new blockchain implementation, FIFA can now set its own rules, permissions, and optimizations, giving it total control of the possibilities available for its products.

With this new ruleset, FIFA will add additional functionality to its FIFA Collect app, which will be migrated to Avalanche. These include ticketing processes, the issuance of digital challenges, and also the already available digital collectibles with added utility.

Also, this migration offers technical improvements that will allow FIFA’s operations to scale seamlessly, improving transaction finality and reducing fees. It does so without concerns about external traffic affecting operations.

Luke152 highlighted that adopting this new chain will grow FIFA’s ecosystem, bringing new use cases for both users and the association. He declared:

The FIFA Blockchain is expected to support a growing ecosystem of fan experiences, including new types of interaction, loyalty-based rewards, and even digital extensions of live events.

Avalanche’s official announcement reveals that “more future business cases are still kept confidential and might be unveiled at a later stage,” hinting at the launch of more applications.

Other projects have already gone this way, migrating or creating their personalized chains on Avalanche. Off the Grid, an extraction battle royale game, uses the GUNZ Layer 1 to power its gaming interactions, allowing users to get true ownership of their in-game assets.
