Gate Obtains Malta Payment Institution License to Expand European Stablecoin Infrastructure 1

Gate announced on February 26, 2026, that its subsidiary, Gate Technology Ltd, received official authorization under the EU Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2). This achievement allows Gate to utilize passporting rights to deliver compliant payment solutions and bridge Web3 infrastructure with traditional finance across all European Union member states. The new license complements Gate’s existing Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) authorization for exchange and custody services previously secured in the jurisdiction.

The Payment Institution status empowers Gate to integrate traditional financial mechanisms, such as fiat-to-stablecoin gateways and direct payment processing, into its ecosystem for over 49 million global users. By aligning with both PSD2 and MiCA frameworks, the company establishes a regulated foundation for institutional and retail clients seeking secure digital asset services. This move is part of a broader global compliance strategy that includes registrations in Japan, Australia, Dubai, and the Bahamas.

“It positions Gate to build a secure, scalable bridge between traditional finance and Web3, delivering compliant payment solutions,” says Giovanni Cunti, CEO of Gate Technology Ltd.
