Numo: Tap-to-Pay Bitcoin App for Merchants

Numo lanza una aplicación 'Tap-to-Pay' gratuita y de código abierto para comerciantes de Bitcoin. 1

Launched on February 24, 2026, the Numo point-of-sale (POS) app transforms any NFC-enabled Android device into a payment terminal. By leveraging Cashu, an open-source ecash protocol, the app enables a checkout process similar to Apple Pay: a customer taps their phone against the merchant’s device to instantly transfer payment tokens. The interaction settles in seconds and is compatible with both Cashu ecash wallets and any standard Lightning Network wallet.

Designed specifically for small businesses and local vendors, Numo includes integrated inventory management, tipping tools, and offline payment support. To simplify treasury management, merchants can set an “auto-sweep” threshold that automatically moves accumulated ecash balances to their private Lightning address. The project is fully open-source (MIT license) and charges zero platform fees, allowing merchants to keep 100% of their earnings.

Bitcoin payments should be as easy as tapping your phone. Numo makes that a reality today,” the development team stated during the launch.

🧭 FAQs

  • What hardware is required to use Numo? No extra hardware is needed; the app works on any standard Android smartphone with NFC capabilities.

  • How does the “auto-sweep” feature work? Merchants can set a specific balance limit (e.g., 100,000 sats). Once reached, the app automatically sends the funds to the merchant’s external Lightning wallet.

  • Is the app available on the Google Play Store? Currently, it is available as a direct APK download at numopay.org, with a Google Play Store release expected shortly.

  • Can customers pay using a standard Lightning wallet? Yes. While optimized for Cashu, Numo generates Lightning invoices compatible with any Bitcoin Lightning wallet.
